Serverless or containers? We want to hear from YOU! Take our survey about which technology you prefer, and get ready for an upcoming JAX Magazine all about serverless computing and containers.
The new wave of serverless
Serverless (also known as Function as a service/FaaS) has seen a new swing of popularity lately, with many early adopters jumping on board and a lot of debate on its merits and shortcomings. According to the RightScale 2018 State of the Cloud report, serverless computing is the number one growing cloud service with a steady growth rate of 75%. In StackOverflow’s 2018 survey, serverless took the second spot in “most loved platforms”.
Do we live in a “post-container world”? Services such as AWS are inescapable when discussing the cloud and we want to know why, and what does this mean for existing tech?
Containers: tested and true
Meanwhile, containers remain a solid favorite with projects such as Kubernetes and Docker leading the race. Developers love the flexibility and control of containers and new customization-focused tools are constantly developed. In 2017, the State of the Octoverse reported that Kubernetes was the most-discussed repo on GitHub. Meanwhile, Docker was in GitHub’s top ten most contributed to projects.
Kubernetes’ momentum has been dazzling. Will this de facto tool remain on top for years to come, or has it already reached its climax?
Which will reign supreme?
Time to ask the million dollar questions: When should you pick which? Should you use a mix of the two? Is severless all hype and no substance? Will severless push containers into obscurity?
Have you adopted serverless and loved it, or did you go right back to containers? Are you still unsure and want to know more before making a decision?
Let your opinion be heard!
We want to know your opinions about serverless versus containers!
Our upcoming JAX Magazine is all about serverless computing and containers – how they compete with one another and how they compliment each other. Experts will weight in their opinions and discuss use cases for both technologies, and whether or not you should adopt the trend or stick with what’s been working.
We’d love to learn how our readers feel about serverless computing and containers. Furthermore, we would love to discuss the results and see what the data uncovers!
It would be appreciated if you could take this survey. Your answers will also help us determine what to research, write about, and who to interview in future articles and magazines!
The survey will run until September 10th. Let’s hear where you stand in the debate!
