Interview with Tanja Obradovic, Jakarta EE program manager at the Eclipse Fdn.

The future of Jakarta EE: javax namespace restrictions and the options moving forward

Dominik Mohilo

According to the latest development in the negotiations between Oracle and the Eclipse Foundation, Jakarta EE will have to face certain restrictions surrounding the javax namespace. We caught up with Tanja Obradovic and talked about some of the most burning questions around the future of Jakarta EE.

The announcement about the restrictions regarding Jakarta EE and its use of the javax namespace received mixed feelings among the community. While some people were really angry about Oracle’s position, others view the current events as a chance to get rid of uncomfortable legacies. But how will the transition from javax to jakarta be done?

Tanja Obradovic took the time to give us some insight about the two options that the community is now considering for solving the problem.

Tanja Obradovic joined the Eclipse Foundation to work on Jakarta EE in June 2018. Having been involved with Java and Java EE for quite some time, revitalizing Enterprise Java seemed like a good challenge and a great fit for Tanja! Outside the office, she loves spending time with her family and friends, art, outdoor activities (even in winter!), traveling, and beaches.
