Yahoo! Updates its Sherpa Distributed Cloud Storage Platform

Jessica Thornsby

Yahoo! have blogged about the updates to its distributed Cloud storage platform, Sherpa, over the past year.

Sherpa is horizontally scalable, and replicates data asynchronously across data centres. The updates include the ‘YAK’ automated load balancer, which detects hotspots and moves shards to lightly loaded servers, and support for Eventual Consistency, meaning that applications can perform inserts and updates on a table in the local replica, with low latency.

The blog also reveals that secondary indexes and record-level adaptive replication, are also on the cards for Sherpa.
