Scalamodules Propose “OSGi On Scala”
Scalamodules have submitted a proposal for a Scala Domain Specific Language (DSL)
for OSGi at Eclipse.org; ScalaModules. The project will build on
the existing 1.x release codebase, and will not create any
tools.
The Scala programming language offers full interoperability with
Java, and OSGi works only with the compiled artifacts and the
metadata in the bundle manifest. Therefore, Scala propose that
ScalaModules would be “straightforward” and define their mission as
to “employ the power of the Scala programming language to ease OSGi
development.”
Version 1.0 was released in March 2009, and version 2.0 is
currently under active development. ScalaModules is licensed under
the Apache License, Version 2.0, but this will change to Eclipse
Public License v1.0 as soon as the project moves to Eclipse. All
ScalaModules developers will be initial committers, and will
continue the existing work necessary for the release of
ScalaModules 2.0.
ScalaModules is aligned with the Helios release plan, and aims to have a release
candidate ready around May 2010.
