Red Hat Launch CloudForms Beta Program

Red Hat have launched a beta program for CloudForms. CloudForms combines application lifecycle management and functionality for managing infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) private and hybrid clouds. It also offers configuration and management of multi-tier applications, and gives users the option to deploy, manage, and move these applications between different clouds, virtualisation environments, and baremetal servers. Red Hat are currently accepting requests to participate in the CloudForms beta program, and CloudForms is expected to be generally available in autumn, 2011.

Scala IDE for Eclipse 2.0.0 beta3 with New Scala Compiler

The Scala IDE for Eclipse team have announced 2.0.0 beta3. This release comes with the 2.9.0.RC3 release of the Scala compiler, and improves the handling of errors in source files. Crashes on startup have also been addressed. More information on the tickets closed since the last beta, can be viewed at the Scala IDE for Eclipse website. This beta requires Eclipse version 3.6 to run.

First Release Candidate for IntelliJ IDEA 10.5

After two months of Early Access, a release candidate for IntellIj IDEA 10.5 has been announced. This release candidate adds edit to the context menu of Project tree / External Library, and addresses bugs that prevented building Maven Android projects from within IntelliJ 10.5. A bug that caused the create-constructor intention with array argument to create the wrong signature constructor, has also been addressed. The final release of IntelliJ IDEA 10.5 will feature full Java 7 support, a JavaScript Debugger in Google Chrome, and improvements in Groovy, Spring, JavaScript and Flex support.

AWS Elastic Beanstalk Adds Tomcat 7 Support

Amazon have announced that AWS Elastic Beanstalk now supports Tomcat version 7. Apache Tomcat 7 is now the default for all new environments, although users can still choose to use version 6. Apache Tomcat 7 adds support for Servlet 3.0, JSP-EL 2.2 and JSP 2.2, alongside security improvements. First RC for Akka 1.1

The first release candidate of Akka 1.1 has been announced. Akka 1.1-RC1 is built on the latest Scala release candidate: 2.9.0.RC3. The source code for this release can be downloaded from github.
