Microsoft Open Source jQuery Globalization/Localization Plugin

Jessica Thornsby

Microsoft have launched an open source prototype of their jQuery Globalization/Localization plugin.

This plugin works with the jQuery JavaScript library. It supports over 350 different cultures and enables culture-aware number and date parsing and formatting. For example, it can format dates to any of the supported cultures, whether they have Gregorian or non-Gregorian calendars, Gregorian calendars with a year offset, or calendars with multiple Eras. It also supports parsing dates and numbers from the culture specific string representation, back into JavaScript dates and numbers, and comes with a localize() API that selects the best known cultural match automatically.

The plugin can be downloaded from github.
