Google Open Source Chrome’s RLZ Library
Google have announced they have open sourced the RLZ library that is built into Google Chrome. Developers can now access the code that generates the RLZ parameter, which can sometimes appear in Google search queries. This library assigns non-unique, non-personally identifiable promotion tracking labels to client products in an effort to measure the success of marketing promotions and distribution partnerships.
Versions of Google Chrome distributed through promotional channels will now include this open source implementation of RLZ, but a Google Chrome without the RLZ library can be downloaded directly from the Chrome website.
“We know this is just a small step, but we think that the RLZ project will provide better transparency and value to the community,” reads the announcement.
The RLZ project can be downloaded now from Google Code.
