James Gosling, the software guru who developed Java programming language, has resigned from Oracle. He has announced on his blog that he quit on April 2, 2010.
Without elaborating on why he quit, he comments somewhat cryptically: “Just about anything I could say that would be accurate and honest would do more harm than good…”
He says he will take a break and then look for a new job: “I
don’t know what I’m going to do next, other than take some time off
before I start job hunting.”
Mr. Gosling’s resignation comes just a few month’s after Oracle’s
acquisition of Sun. His announcement follows the departure of other
high-profile ex-Sun employees such as CEO Jonathan Schwartz, who
have quit since acquisition.
According to Silicon Beat Mr. Gosling had been wary of the cultural compatibility issues that follow merger and acquisition.
