Eclipse Extended For Smalltalk Developers
Yesterday saw the release of the open beta of GemDev, an
Eclipse-based IDE for GemStone Smalltalk developers. This is the
first public release, and is intended for time-limited testing and
evaluation. GemDev was developed with the aim of providing
Smalltalk developers with mainstream tools, and features automatic
highlighting, customisable colouring of syntax elements and an
object inspector with explorer-like structure.
There is also currently attempts to implement Smalltalk on the
JVM, leading one blogger to comment “there’s a lot of
interesting “break the traditional metaphors” work going on, which
is good – stagnation is death.”
