The Internet of Things is flourishing with a ‘diverse’ range of protocols. But isn’t 200 overdoing it a bit?

MQTT, HTTP, CoAP, OMA Lightweight M2M – Do we really need hundreds of Internet of Things (IoT) protocols to cover all of our use cases? Or will one of the competing standards eventually dominate the IoT space, just as HTTP dominates the web space?

What environments are the most popular protocols best suited for? At the IoTCon 2014, we talked to Julien Vermillard, software engineer at Sierra Wireless, about the protocol diversity in the IoT and possible future scenarios.
