Claire Rowland talks UX design for the Internet of Things
The “Internet of Things” is still a heavily technology driven field and many of the products and services that fall into this category are still mostly of interest to early adopters.
That’s all good and well, but as the technology matures, we need to understand how to create things mass market users want, understand, and enjoy using. This will be an upcoming challenge for UX designers in the next few years.
This talk, filmed at Webinale 2014, will outline why the technology of the internet of things poses big challenges for the user experience of IoT services, and how multiple layers of design are needed to cope with the complexity of interconnected devices: from productisation to service design, clear conceptual models and cross-device usability.
