Integrated Java Environment

BlueJ 3.0 Gets A New Editor

Jessica Thornsby

BlueJ version 3.0 is now available.

BlueJ is an integrated Java environment which was specifically designed for introductory teaching. It features a graphical class structure display and graphical and textual editing.

In this release, a new parser has been implemented that introduces new functionality to the BlueJ editor, including scope highlighting and code completion. There is also a new Navigation View that displays a smaller version of the full class text, and highlights the currently selected viewport. Relevant method names are shown when the mouse hovers over the navigation view.

With version 3.0, Javadocs are shown for calls to inner classes and source code printing can now include line numbers and syntax colouring. For more information, please see the Changelog.
