White House Contributes to Open Source
WhiteHouse.gov has released some of the code it has developed.
This newly-released code includes two modules for scalability. One module allows site builders to add new metadata to the content they serve, and another allows the WhiteHouse.gov website to integrate with their Content Delivery Network. There is also a module for tailoring mailing list emails more closely to a user's preference.
“By releasing some of our code, we get the benefit of more people reviewing and improving it,” reads the announcement.
More of the code used in the White House website is available as part of the open source Drupal project, which powers the government website.
