Real-Time Notifications

W3C Form New Web Notification Working Group

The W3C has formed a new Web Notification Working Group.

The group will be charged with producing user agent features and specifications that define APIs for generating real-time alerts. These notifications may be displayed asynchronously and may not require user confirmation, they are also aiming for compatibility with existing notification platforms, and platform-independence. The deliverables should apply to desktop and mobile browsers, and appropriate non-browser environments. The Group are also planning to produce a test suite for each specification, and a Primer or Best Practice document to support web developers when designing applications.

More information is available at the Group's charter.
