VMware vFabric 5 Released Alongside New SQLFire Product

Version 5 of the VMware vFabric Cloud Application Platform, has been released. VMware vFabric version 5 adds Elastic Memory for Java (EM4J) capability to tc Serve. EM4J uses the underlying vSphere virtualisation and provides new coordination between the application server and the underlying virtual machine. Spring Insight Operations has also been added, which combines the information from multiple application severs into a single console, featuring drill downs, historical comparisons and roll-up views. Spring Insight Operations monitoring is available as both a stand-alone console and through a plugin to the Hyperic monitoring solution.

VMware have also announced the beta of their new vFabric SQLFire product. This distributed data management system is memory-oriented and provides horizontal scalability, shared-nothing persistence and built in fault tolerance, with a SQL interface. Users can talk to SQLFire using JDBC from Java applications. The beta can be downloaded now.

Apache Traffic Server 3.0.0 Released

The HTTP/1.1 compliant caching proxy server, Apache Traffic Server, has reached version 3.0.0. Apache Traffic Server caches and reuses frequently-requested web pages, images, and web service calls. According to the Apache Software Foundation, Apache Traffic Server 3.0.0 has been benchmarked to handle more than of 200,000 requests per second. This is a 277% improvement on version 2.0’s rates.

First Release Candidate for Orion 0.2

Hot on the heels of Orion 0.2 M8, the first release candidate of Orion 0.2 is now available. Git repository configuration settings can now be viewed and edited from the Repositories page, and the Git Status page now displays the most recent five commits in the local and remote branch. A number of changes have been implemented to improve page load performance, including in-lining all widgets to avoid extra round-trips and enabling Gzip filtering for all pages on the server. The banner at the top of each Orion page has also been altered to give more space to the bread crumb area on the left:

Spring Data Graph 1.1.0.M1 Supports Cypher

Version 1.1.0.M1 of the Spring Data Graph project with Neo4j support is out now. This milestone updates the Neo4j dependency to 1.4.M04, and the AspectJ dependency to 1.6.12.M1. The Cypher Neo4j query language is now supported in entity annotations, introduced methods and repositories, and self-relationships are supported. The documentation has also been updated. SpringSource Tool Suite 2.7.0 M2 Supports Grails 1.4

The second milestone release of SpringSource Tool Suite (STS) 2.7.0 has been announced. This release improves the support for VMware’s Cloud Foundry platform, and adds support for Grails version 1.4. Content assist for GSPs have been improved, and Greclipse and STS Grails tooling can now work with Grails 1.4.M1. When working with scripts, the outline view displays contents in a more Groovy-like way:
