VMware Move to a Per VM Licensing Model

VMware have announced that, starting on September 1st, 2010, some of their vCenter products will move from the existing per processor licensing to per VM licensing.

Making the transition, will be:

  • vCenter AppSpeed.
  • vCenter CapacityIQ (offered in a per VM model late 2010 / early 2011.)
  • vCenter Chargeback.
  • vCenter Site Recovery Manager.

If you have purchased per processor licenses for the above products, VMware plan to exchange these for licenses based on the VM licensing model. The remaining vCenter products will continue to be sold under existing licensing models.
