Virtualisation will transform networks as well
IT budgets tend to overlook the impact of proliferating virtual machines on networks.
Here is a wakeup call by Greg Ness, vice president of corporate marketing at Infoblox. Enterprises can create and deploy virtual servers in seconds. In the short term virtual networks (VLANs) ensure that all virtual machines share a network connection.
But as virtualisation takes root in large enterprises VLANs get congested. Unless networks are also virtualised VLANs will "...create hardships between system and network teams who are stuck arbitrating changes at two very different paces."
