V8 JavaScript Engine Comes to Android

Google have announced details of the forthcoming Android 2.2 operating system.

The V8 JavaScript engine will be brought to the Android browser, and 2.2 will come complete with new data backup APIs which will enable apps to participate in data backup and restore. Apps will also be able to leverage Android Cloud to Device Messaging, to enable two-way push sync functionality. As already hinted at the Google Code Android Issues mailing list, users will have the option of installing apps to the internal memory or an SD card, with Android 2.2

In anticipation of the forthcoming Android 2.2 release, Google have launched the Android 2.2 SDK and Android NDK, Revision 4.
