Redis Developer Joins VMware

Salvatore Sanfilippo, the key developer for NoSQL database Redis, has joined the VMware engineering team.

In a press release, VMware state that technology such as Redis is crucial for future apps based on both the public and the private cloud, as these sorts of large scale systems can benefit from alternatives to storing state within a centralised relational store.

The press releases goes on to predict a tight integration between tools for handling large, distributed data stores, and the cloud, and cites Google's App Engine's utilisation of BigTable as proof. Vmware pledge to allow Sanfilippo to continue his work with Redis, citing Vmware's open source efforts Spring and Zimbra as evidence that they are committed to the open source community.

The current Redis release is version 1.2.5.
