The vision is Big Data
Pentaho 4.5 to 'explore new business analytics capabilities'
The entire industry seems to be going crazy for the world of Big Data analytics at the moment, with many enterprises foraging around for the best solution for them.
The latest company to put their head above the parapet is Pentaho, who've just released Pentaho Business Analytics 4.5, promising to deliver the future for business analytics.
Based upon their open source platform, this release adds in some useful user-driven, interactive visualization and data exploration capabilities that access all data sources, with Big Data as the key selling point. Enterprises are able to use pluggable and extensible interfaces to easily add third-party visualizations. Almost creating an analytics pick and mix of sorts.
New visualisation APIs include geo mapping and heat grids, but the real deal is within the Enterprise Edition, with Big Data additions. Pentaho have embraced the area with simplified deployment options for efficient Hadoop distribution as well as support for secure Hadoop clusters. NoSQL database integration is on the agenda as well including read, write and reporting with current favourites Apache Cassandra, DataStax and MongoDB.
“Pentaho Business Analytics 4.5 delivers interactive visualization and big data integration in a unified pluggable platform that speeds time to business insights for both IT and line of business,” said Jake Cornelius, senior vice president, products, Pentaho Corporation. “We built the Pentaho platform from the ground up with an understanding that data integration and business analytics are better together.”
Pentaho Business Analytics 4.5 is available for a 30-day trial at their website for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. There's also Pentaho's open source project Kettle, targeted at data scientists and developers mostly, which is a powerful Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) engine that executes Big Data jobs and transforms. The Enterprise Edition excels above the Professional Edition with its Big Data add-ons, so certainly pick that option for your enterprise.
