Lightspark Reaches Beta

Open Source Adobe Flash Implementation

The team behind Lightspark have announced this project is now in beta.

Lightspark is an open source Adobe Flash implementation.“I really believe Flash is a powerful technology, it’s main weakness being it’s closedness,” reads the Lightspark blog.

The beta features OpenGL based rendering, which means that blur and additional effects can be implemented using shaders (although these effects are not currently supported by Lightspark). It also features “mostly complete” support for Action Script 3.0, additional performance profiling and debugging features not included in the original Adobe player, and comes with a Mozilla compatible plugin.
