Open Data Protocol Available For SQL Azure Users

Jessica Thornsby

A preview of Microsoft’s Open Data Protocol (OData) project for unlocking data, is now accessible to SQL Azure database users. The OData service for SQL Azure wizard, is available to download from SQL Azure Labs. This wizard allows developers to select databases to expose through Odata, and whether to share their data with specified users, or to any anonymous, interested party.

Once OData has been enabled, users can view their data in the browser, write LINQ queries against that data, and explore the data using OData Explorer and Sesame OData Browser.

The W3C have already invited Microsoft to create an Incubator Group for the project.
