NetBeans Module Suite for the Blind

Sappy in NetBeans version 0.5 is now available to download. Sappy in NetBeans is a module suite that aims to enhance accessibility for the blind in modern programming environments. This first release includes basic support for NetBeans text-to-speech, with or without a screen reader, and a cross-platform text-to-speech engine. It also includes an Options panel, where sighted users can turn the text-to-speech functionality off, is so desired.

Sappy is available to download from the Sodbeans website. Sappy is currently being developed by students and researchers at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Washington State University.
