MercurialEclipse 1.7.1 and GPars 0.11 Released

GPars 0.11 with Speedier Actors

GPars version 0.11 has been announced, with a full dataflow implementation featuring selectors, point-to-point, publish-subscribe channels and prioritySelectors. It also features a new Java API and an actor messaging core speed-up. There are new specialised operators and methods for selecting a value from multiple channels.

GPars utilises Java and Groovy to handle Java or Groovy tasks concurrently, asynchronously, and distributed. More information is available at the GPars webpage.

DropBox Turns 1.0

The Dropbox tool for storing, syncing and sharing files online has reached version 1.0. This release comes with a new installation wizard, support for extended attributes and selective sync. The client-side sync engine has been re-architected in an effort to optimise response time, resource consumption and scale.

MySQL 5.5 Goes GA – But What Does Monty Think?

Oracle have just released MySQL 5.5 GA, but what does creator Michael Widenius think about the release? Well, it's a mixed bag. He has blogged that he is concerned by the release's lack of pool of threads, and open source, free backup utility and backup API. However, he is impressed with the improvements in InnoDB, the addition of DDL locking, semi-synchronous replication, and pluggable authentication.

Is Honeycomb 2.4 or 3.0?

Android and Me have shed some light on the Android 'Honeycomb' release. Citing an unnamed source, they state 'Honeycomb' is actually 2.4, not 3.0 "For whatever reason, it sounds like Google is holding version 3.0 for something special," speculates the website. They also guess that Mobile World Congress could see the launch of Honeycomb.

MercurialEclipse 1.7.1 Released

MercurialEclipse version 1.7.1 has been announced. MercurialEclipse is the Mercurial Distributed Version Control plugin for Eclipse. For this release, the handling of multiple heads has been overhauled, with "Rebase" and "Merge" being offered automatically. Version 1.7.1 has also been updated to leverage Mercurial version 1.6, and the 'Open Corresponding Task' item has been added to Synchronised View.
