New Linux Project

MeeGo 1.0 Platform Targets Netbooks

Version 1.0 of the MeeGo platform is now available.

MeeGo is an open source Linux project created from Intel's Moblin project, and Nokia's Maemo project, and managed by the Linux Foundation. It aims to enable the development of rich computational and graphically oriented applications, and connected services. MeeGo targets platforms such as Netbooks, hand-held computing and communication devices, and in-vehicle infotainment devices.

Version 1.0 aims to provide developers with a stable core foundation for application development and a rich user experience for Netbooks. It features a deviceKit and udev for interacting with hardware devices, and the Kernel is based on 2.6.33.

Version 1.1 is currently scheduled for release in October and will introduce support for touch-based devices, for example handsets, tablets, and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
