Lessons from early movers on Cloud

Arun Mysore

Silicon Valley start-ups don’t buy servers anymore. They just head to Cloud. CIO has spoken to a few small companies which made early moves on the Cloud and identified a few key lessons from their experience.

There are no new revelations, though the ‘lessons’ help reiterate widely shared experiences on cloud.

Cloud helps you do away the datacenter and save cost. As bonus, your technical team gets to focus more on coding than server administration. Don’t be worry about downtime, but focus all your anxious-energy on security. Whether you run your apps on your internal data center or Amazon, you are responsible for securing them.

Finally, you think you decide whether to use cloud or not? Wrong. You can use cloud only if your customers don’t care where the third party data centers are located.
