After a brief summer break to recharge the batteries, Java Tech Journal is back, replenished to give you some insight into what is hot in the Java ecosystem. The more perceptive of you may have noticed a new structure for this, the August issue. Last month’s cross-section of news, features and other little tidbits are still here, but from now on, instead of focusing on one specific topic, we’ve broken down the barriers. Now anything goes. What does this mean for you the reader? Well, more of the same hopefully. You’ll still get the top tricks and tips from the best in the industry, for using the technologies that you know and love. Along the way, you might learn something new, too. For our first foray, we’ve assembled a great lineup. Jason Lee kicks us off with a handy guide to getting the most pluggable Java EE apps around, utilising the world of JAX-RS, OSGi, and more. Next up is Nicolas Fränkel, introducing us to the modern web framework currently making big waves, Vaadin. He’ll show us how easy it is to get the power out of Vaadin 7, complete with validation. Finally, we’ve got a first part of ZeroTurnaround’s Pragmatic Continuous Delivery Tutorial, demonstrating the best way to truly get Jenkins, LiveRebel et al. all tuned up for the deployment pipeline. Also this month, we look further into that decision to delay Project Jigsaw, Java’s long-awaited module system, and ask whether it was the right call for the platform as we know it. We chat to Mark Little about the latest JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 release and take you on a whirlwind tour of the Hadoop vendors and who has edged in front in Big Data’s own version of Game of Thrones. So sit back with a cold drink and enjoy the (hopefully) sunny weather where you are whilst perusing this issue – and most importantly, enjoy!
