Greetings, and welcome to the third issue of JAXmag, where we turn our focus onto the world of build tools. Build tools are essential for taking the day-to-day pressure off developers by automating a list of everyday tasks – who couldn't want to know more about them? The biggest release in the world of build tools over the past few months is, of course, Maven 3.0 and we have an article where 'Apache Maven 2: Effective Implementation' co-author Brett Porter not only covers the usual 'what's new' ins-and-outs of the release, but places it in context, allowing the reader to track how Maven arrived at this release. For those who wish to get their hands dirty, JAXmag offers an article dedicated to getting you coding in Apache Ant, as founding committee member for XML Prague and technical writer Jim Fuller shows us some recipes from his ' Apache Ant Recipes for Web Developers' book. Etienne Studer from Swiss based Canoo Engineering introduces the Groovy powered toolkit Gradle and, for those developers who wish to try something new, there's an article introducing you to Pulse and Gant, the build tool for scripting Ant tasks using Groovy. As ever, JAXmag is absolutely free – just fill in the form below, and we'll provide you with a personalised download link. Please note that this link is active for six hours. Happy reading!
