Java Comes to Symbian Devices

Following Nokia's contribution of JRT to the Symbian Foundation's Symbian^3 PDK, developers can now write Java applications for Symbian devices. JRT includes open source API implementations such as JSR 118 MIDP 2.1 and JSR135 Mobile Media API 1.2, and uses an implementation of the open source eSWT UI API 1.0.3 from the Eclipse eRCP project.

The JRT is now open source, meaning that the community can modify it under the terms of the Symbian Foundation's EPL license. The Symbian Foundation have also posted a roadmap for JRT, which can be viewed online.
