Java 7 – Coming This Week!
Java 7 is almost upon us, and to celebrate Oracle are hosting a global introduction to the new release in Red Shores, São Paulo, and London on July 7th. Java fans can already register for the events at the Oracle Conference Centre in Redwood Shores, and at The Developer's Conference 2011 in Brazil. Or, if you can't be there in person, registration is now open for the live webcast.
Apache Karaf OSGi Distribution Releases 2.2.2
Version 2.2.2 of the Apache Karaf OSGi distribution, has been released. Apache Karaf provides a container for server side applications, and contains bug fixes and updates for version 2.2.1. These include improvements to the OracleDB locking mechanism, and improvements to the shell, for example completion for shell aliases and a warning on osgi:shutdown, which aims to help avoid inadvertently shutting down the container. Pax URL has been upgraded to version 1.2.7, and jetty to 7.4.2.v20110526. More information is available at the Release Notes.
Second Release of LibreOffice 3.4 Branch
The second release from the 3.4 LibreOffice branch, has been announced. LibreOffice 3.4.1 fixes several bugs found in the 3.4 release. The new LibreOffice 3.4 code line introduced a series of updates, including redesigned Move/Copy Sheet dialogue, and improvements to the HTML export functionality. The drawing layer has also been redesigned to improve precision on re-positioning and re-sizing of drawing objects.
The Document Foundation still advises that large enterprises deploying LibreOffice on desktop PCs, deploy LibreOffice 3.3.3. LibreOffice 3.4.2 will target enterprise deployments, and will be available at the end of July.
Apache Chemistry OpenCMIS 0.4.0 Released
Version 0.4.0 of the Apache Chemistry OpenCMIS project, has been released. OpenCMIS is the collection of Java libraries, frameworks and tools around the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification. The goal of OpenCMIS is to make CMIS simple for Java client and server developers. This release fixes bugs in the OSGi bundling, and adds a simple index JSP page. Groovy-Eclipse 2.5.1 Updates DSLD Support
Version 2.5.1 of Groovy-Eclipse has been announced, with updates to the tool's DSLD support. All Groovy projects will now have the Groovy DSL Support classpath container automatically added. Additionally, it is possible to manually add and remove the Groovy DSL Support classpath container.
Users also have the option of completely disabling DSLD support. With this release, Eclipse 3.7 becomes the main development branch, and Groovy-Eclipse 2.5.1 includes Groovy 1.7.10 by default, with Groovy 1.8.0 being an optional upgrade.
Apache PDFBox 1.6.0 Adds Signing Interface
Version 1.6.0 of the Apache PDFBox open source Java PDF library for working with PDF documents, has been released. This release is based on the earlier 1.x releases, and introduces a new signing interface, unit tests for PDFBox features, and removes the imageIO dependency. An optional debug output has been added to ExtractText. Apache PDFBox can be downloaded now.
