Is Sun CEO Set To Resign?

Sources close to Sun have suggested that Jon Schwartz will soon resign as Sun CEO, with rumours that his departure will coincide with final approval of the deal

Schwartz has been CEO since April 2006, after working at Sun for ten years, and previously holding the post of Chief Operating Officer. He was behind Sun buying MySQL, and open-sourcing Java and the Solaris operating system.

According to Sun's definitive proxy statement, Schwartz's severance package stands at around $12 million. In a sentimental internal memo circulated on Thursday, Schwartz told Sun employees:

“All in all, it’s been an honor and privilege to work together. In my more than twenty years in the industry, the last thirteen at Sun, I’ve had a chance to work with and around an enormous diversity of companies, from every sector you can imagine. I can say with conviction that Sun’s people have always stood apart as the brightest, most passionate, and most inspiring. I’ve never had a bad day in my thirteen years for one very basic reason–I’ve always been surrounded by the best and brightest individuals I’ve ever come across. That’s been an honor and privilege, for which I’m enormously thankful.”

Oracle are due to host a live webcast on Wednesday 27th, where they are expected to go into greater detail regarding the acquisition.
