GUI Tool WindowBuilder – Now on Eclipse.org

GUI developer tool WindowBuilder is now an official Eclipse project, after Google donated the former Instantiations Eclipse tools to the Eclipse Foundation. WindowBuilder is composed of SWT Designer and Swing Designer, aiding in the creation of Java GUI applications. The WindowBuilder team now plan to extend the project to other languages and UI frameworks, such as C++, JavaScript, and PHP. Currently, the project supports Java and XML based UI frameworks. WindowBuilder can now be downloaded for free from the Eclipse website.

OSGi Apache Aries Project Releases 0.3

Version 0.3 of the Apache Aries OSGi project is now available. Apache Aries provides a set of pluggable Java components that enable an enterprise OSGi application programming model. New in this release, is a proxy component that allows users to generate proxyies based on both interfaces and classes, and an application component that provides a runtime in which OSGi apps are isolated from one another. Support for blueprint namespace has also been added. The Release Notes for 0.3 can be viewed now.

Apache Forrest 0.9 Framework Released

Version 0.9 of the Apache Forrest publishing framework has been released. Apache Forrest is a framework for transforming input from various sources into a unified presentation in one, or more, output formats. It can generate static documents, and can either be used as a dynamic server, or deployed by its automated facility. This version updates the Apache Coccon Spring-based framework to the latest version of their stable 2.1 branch, adds initial “Markdown” and “iCal” output plugins to Whiteboard, and updates to Apache Ant version 1.7.1. Matthias Wessendorf Leaves Oracle

Principal software engineer at Oracle, Matthias Wessendorf has announced that he will be leaving Oracle at the end of February, after almost five years at the company. He will also be stepping down from his position as Apache MyFaces PMC Chair and will cease actively participating in JSF-related projects.

JIRA 4.2.4 Released with JIRA Importers Plugin

The Atlassian JIRA team have released JIRA 4.2.4, which comes with version 1.7.1 of the JIRA Importers Plugin. The Importer plugin works with Bugzilla 2.20 to 3.6.3, Mantis from 1.1.8 to 1.2.4, FogBugz 7.3.6 to 8.2.27, and CSV files. JIRA 4.2.4 also fixes a bug in the ‘Filter Results’ gadget.

First ATLP Release for Apache OODT

The Apache OODT team have announced their first release as an Apache TLP. Apache OODT is mix-and-match component based software, which provides metadata for middleware, including data discovery and query optimisation, and software architecture. The 0.2 release can be downloaded now.
