Goodbye, Google Wave!

Google To Stop Developing Google Wave

Google have announced they will stop development of Google Wave, following a lower than anticipated user adoption. The Google Wave website will continue to be maintained “at least through the end of the year” and the technology will be used in other Google projects.

Google Wave was launched as a web application for real time communication and collaboration, and featured character-by-character live typing, and the ability to drag-and-drop files from the desktop. Some of the Google Wave code, and the protocols are open source, so there is a possibility that Google Wave may continue to be developed within the open source community.

“Wave has taught us a lot, and we are proud of the team for the ways in which they have pushed the boundaries of computer science. We are excited about what they will develop next as we continue to create innovations with the potential to advance technology and the wider web,” reads the announcement.
