GlassFish 3.0.1 Released in Open Source and Commercially Supported Flavours

Jessica Thornsby

GlassFish gets support for Grails, JRuby and Rails.

Version 3.0.1 of GlassFish Open Source and the commercially supported Oracle GlassFish product have been released.

GlassFish Server 3.0.1 introduces ‘profiles;’ a collection of Java EE technologies and APIs. Profiles include a full Java EE platform, which targets developers who require the full set of Java EE APIs for enterprise application deployment, and a ‘Web Profile’ that contains web technologies which are a subset of the full Java platform.

Version 3.0.1 also comes with a new Update Tool, which allows the developer to manage add-on components and related applications. GlassFish Server 3.0.1 supports new scripting languages, including Grails, JRuby and Rails. In GlassFish Server version 3.0.1, the code has been split into modules that are implemented on top of OSGi Alliance standards, which should enable GlassFish Server 3.0.1 modules to be reused.

More information is available at the Release Notes. The open source edition can be downloaded now.
