Firefox Not Coming to Windows Phone 7

Mozilla Mobile team lead Stuart Parmenter has announced that Firefox mobile will not be available on the Windows Phone 7 series.

Firefox already runs on Windows CE 6 - the platform Windows Phone 7 is built on. However, Microsoft has decided to close off development to native applications by not releasing a native development kit.

The Firefox blog post reveals that the Firefox team have been building a version of Firefox for Windows Mobile for “quite a while.” The builds and test automation for Firefox on Windows Phone 7, will be disabled shortly.

“While I hope that we do see Microsoft provide us with a way to build Firefox for Windows Phone 7, we will continue to focus on the things that we can control: building a great consumer product on both Android and Maemo,” concludes Stuart Parmenter.
