Eclipse Based IDE for Natural Programmers
Business infrastructure software provider Software AG have announced the availability of NaturalOne, an Eclipse-based IDE for enterprise application development. Software AG cited a substantial deployment of applications based on its Natural fourth-generation programming language (4GL) as the reason behind NaturalOne.
The IDE will leverage the 35-year-old, Fourth Generation Natural language to code and test applications, expose Natural objects as Web services and build rich Web interfaces. NaturalOne will feature the eighth major release of the Natural 4GL, and will offer an AJAX interface and the ability to build Web services via a point-and-click paradigm.
In the press release, Software AG reveal they are targeting two distinct groups: those who are experienced in using Software AG's Natural, and those who are familiar with the Eclipse IDE, but have little or no Natural experience.
“With NaturalONE the developer has everything right at his fingertips. In addition, anyone familiar with the Eclipse interface will be much more quickly introduced to the richness and capabilities of Natural,” said Dr. Peter Kuerpick, Chief Product Officer and Member of the Executive Board at Software AG.
Databases supported by NaturalOne include Adabas, IBM DB2, and Oracle. The NaturalOne development toolset (including a local runtime environment for application testing) is available as a free trail download from the NaturalOne website.
