Apache Commons DBCP Versions 1.3 and 1.4 Released

jt

The Apache Commons project has announced the release of Commons Database Connection Pool (DBCP) versions 1.3 and 1.4.

New features for both 1.3 an 1.4 include a validationQueryTimeout configuration parameter that allows the user to specify a timeout value for connection validation queries; and support for pooling managed connections. The new versions also boast greater extensibility of BasicDataSource, through encapsulating methods to create object pool, connection factory and datasource instance previously embedded in createDataSource. For full details, please see the Release Notes.

Please note that version 1.4 supports the JDBC 4 API, so requires Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.6. Version 1.3 supports JDBC 3. Applications running under JDK 1.4-1.5 must use DBCP 1.3. Applications running under JDK 1.6 should use DBCP 1.4.

Commons DBCP depends on Commons Pool. DBCP users are encouraged to upgrade to version 1.5.4 of Commons Pool.
